CCECC is contracted to undertake the construction
Quara Manufacturing Plc contracted China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for 13 billion birr to construct a twin tower in Kazanchis area, Addis Ababa.
Owned by Tewodros Yeshiwas, major shareholder of Gomeju Oil, Quara has been involved in the export of commodities and the manufacturing sector. It has subsidiaries involved in different sectors.
Sprawling on a 5,743sqm plot of land, the twin tower will have a 44 storey and 30 storey buildings. With a 219 meter height, the 44+4 storey building will be dedicated to businesses and is going to be taller than the headquarters of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, whose height is 209 meters.
The 30 storey building will be used for residential purposes, which has a three and four bedroom apartment houses. While it is not a part of the contract signed with the Chinese company, another building will be also constructed to serve as a parking lot once the first phase of the twin tower project is completed.
Yexzqa Construction Management, owned and managed by Wubishet Zikale (PhD), has been contracted as the main consultant of the project.
“It will be the tallest building in the capital with a unique design, having greeneries in the middle of the twin tower,” said Wubishet, whose company is consulting in the construction of Bank of Abyssinia and Amhara Bank headquarters.
The construction of the towers is expected to consume six years, with the developer planning to both lease and sell commercial spaces and residential houses.
The contractor, CCECC, has constructed different projects in Ethiopia, including the Ethio-Djibouti Railway with a budget of almost USD four billion and the Hawassa Industrial Park, which has consumed close to a quarter of a billion dollar.
Another Chinese contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), is currently undertaking the construction of another tower in Mexico Area, which bankers call a Financial District, for USD 400 million.
Owned by the Bank of Abyssinia, the 60 storey building will be the tallest tower in the capital, covering 9,763 sq. m of land.
