A melting pot of cultures breeds a strong nation

All the strong nations we know today are the results of the Melting Pot Theory. China, US, Russia and others that are economically, militarily, diplomatically, financially and technologically strong nations have, throughout there long history, had many cultures and languages blend into a strong nation.

Nations with a high level of technological development but a small territorial size such as Korea, Japan will not have a chance to stay as a strong nation in the future.

Some members of the European Union will not have a chance to stay as a strong nation in the future because of individual interests to preserve their language and culture. By the time European nations controlled and influenced most parts of the world, China was a very poor country. Today, China, with its territorial size and ideological conviction, overtook the Europeans position in most aspects, with continues system improvements.

All European nations have their own governments and it is very expensive to have embassies and send attaches to different corners of the world. But if they unify, creating a stronger central government would help in reducing those costs.

For example, European nations have their own embassies here in Addis Ababa and they spend a lot of money to run day to day business. But, if they unite and create one European Government, dubbed let’s say “The United States of Europe,” they will have a better chance to challenge the future. Today, China is much stronger than the whole of Europe and maybe in the near future, one African country may have a stronger economy than many European Countries.

The strength of any nation originates from the strength of the government and its people. In order to have a strong central government; you need to have a strong tax paying communities. And to achieve this, the nation has to melt many ethnicities and culture, into one.

National interest, in this day-and-age, makes it very hard to build a strong, big nation. But one thing is very clear; the future will belong to those nations with a big territorial size and a broad based tax paying communities.

One can see the impact of having a big territorial size in the Olympic Games, with winners originating from such places at a higher rate than smaller states. This boils down to having a strong central government that can afford the expenses incurred during preparations or has a better pool to select athletes from.

If we compare Ethio-telecoms revenue with the income of Djibouti’s telecom, Ethio- telecom outperforms it by a mile. This income can be used for development purposes.

If a country exploits its territorial size and works together with the country’s intellectuals, melting cultures and languages, growth will speed up.

Everything which is not considered as a valuable asset by the new generation will not have the chance to continue to exist. No one can force the new generation to follow past generations. All generations use their own lane to move forward.

We cannot live traditionally and wish to be a modern nation. Traditions come and go and will be replaced by other, better traditions. We humans conform to one tradition for a given time and as soon as we learn a new one, we start despising the old one. Those nations that accept and grow together have a better chance to deliver a better economy to their peoples.

There are smaller countries with vast amounts of fossil fuel or energy deposits. These countries often have a smaller number of populations. The money they generate from the sale of mined products, to their population, is surplus to their consumption levels, leading to wastage of valuable resources. Oil wealth should be governed by international organizations, than be dictated by a handful of countries. Or, these oil rich countries should pay taxes to Organization’s like the UN, to be used to eradicate extreme poverty from the world.

Countries that are highly developed and have powerful militaries may use their power to influence a countries decision, if they run out of resources. This strong nation, the moment is threatened, on the global stage, becomes more agitated and aggressive.

The future, which seems to be going in one direction considering the global politicking that is going on, looks bleak with tension between countries with plenty of resources and countries with limited natural resources.

This problem can only solved by uniting smaller countries with neighboring bigger countries. This can create a strong central government and solve many problems simultaneously.

Humans should have the courage to give up certain ways of thinking, traditions and cultures, to have a better brighter future. We should not resist new ideas and then stick with outdated ones.

A smaller sized country, whether they like it or not, or whatever recourses they have, will always be subservient to bigger countries in terms of military might or size of economy. In the future everything will be difficult for small size countries.

If countries unite, the bigger question will always be which language should be used as a working language. To answer this, considering the above elucidated points, is very easy. The English language comes out the winner, it being the most widely spoken language in the world, which has progressed and developed continuously.

In the future, languages that we know today will eventually die out, with the exception of few developed languages. The new generation only wants to learn what will be useful in the future, and if we are not open to learning new ideas, we will lose the connection with the future. We have already given up a number of traditions and cultures such as how we dress, how we build homes, medical treatments and the like have all changed. But we still have to have a melting pot of cultures, to have a better society.
