I can only say one thing and that is how lucky the country is with all the brave people’commentary,I always thought that I know enough but after reading all commentaries,I prefered to pray with a happy heart and thank God,thank God for all Ethiopians and especially for Shewarega from Shewa,as a follower of evangelical churchs,what you writ gives me so much happiness that I forget all the troubles of this earthly life.God bless you all.

Don’t talk as if Bereket will speak on behalf of ANDM, etc, the reason he is in it is to monitor it and to weaken any party against TPLF. He is therefore ANDM to facilitiate its weakness so that ANDM does not get empowered.

(a) Carry out responsibilities which shall be specifically entrusted to him by the Prime Minister; (b) Act on behalf of the Prime Minister in his absence.

2. The Deputy Prime Minister shall be responsible to the Prime Minister.

Given what prevails on the ground in Ethiopia today, it will be difficult to assume that the Oromo, Amhara or Southern components of EPRDF can be a match to the TPLF. As it controls the essential elements of governance – military, security and economy – TPLF is likely to prevail over the weaker parties if serious confrontation takes place. The worst scenario in this regard will be a declaration of a military takeover by the TPLF under the pretext of maintaining law and order. This, of course, is assuming the confrontation can’t be amicably settled.

One fact that shouldn’t be disregarded is TPLF’s psychological make up. Ever since the drought of 1984/85 it has been conditioned to depend on western donors. The TPLF is not likely to liberate itself from this 28 years old orientation in the short run. As the US and its western allies seem to have endorsed the appointment of Hailemariam as the PM, the TPLF will find it difficult to disregard this demand.

What the TPLF might therefore do is accept Hailemariam’s official appointment as the Prime Minister and estalish a structural mechanism that will ensure real power remains in TPLF’s hand. One possible option in this regard will be to concurrently appoint a strong TPLF personality as Deputy Prime Minister and make sure Hailemariam will have no final say in military and security affairs. It goes without saying that Hailemariam will have no involvement in TPLF.s economic arm (EFORT).

IF Hailemariam dares to challange TPLF’s dictates, nothing will stop the TPLF from staging his elimination under the guise of accident or sudden death from ailment.

In that case, the Tigre Deputy Prime Minister will automatically be elevated to the Prime Ministership before 2015. The situation Ato Hailemariam Desalegn finds himself in is not envious. Given TPLF’s history, there is no reason why this cannot happen. Poor Hailemariam!!!

Somehow, Bereket does not strike me as a person that one relies on.

After all, they are living in “cloud 9″, so to speak, for us to know who they are like.
Thus making us rely on gut instinct and read about our own affairs in media which is even banned in Ethiopia.

Yes, in the parliament MELES was put forward as EPRDF to be the PM. But, does any one of you know why EPRDF elected MELES/TPLF for PM?? That is what I am refering to. There should be election or decision in EPRDF to elect TPLF/MELES for the term until 2015. Yes, of course any EPRDF member, for that matter any Ethiopian, has the right to be PM. But, if EPRDF chose TPLF/MELES as PM for this term and if the EPRDF bylaws allow TPLF to put its replacement for MELES then that also can be possible.

I guess your assumption (or what you want us to believe) is that everyone will play by the rules in spite of what history tells us.

It will come down to who will make the first move. Let’s hope those that have the country’s interest at heart move aggressively and first to neutralize the others. The risk is that they will focus more on the well being of the country and less on what they need to do fast to secure power.

Tigray power will not be over as they still dominate the economy, the professions and the military. I think the other non-tigrayan people have to learn how to work together to counter-act these dominance, instead of being a trojan horse for them. I pray that they get in time that they only represent 6-7% of the ethiopian population and assume a position consumerate to their position.

I think diaspora media should try to send messages to the armed forces to refuse to fight for one group or the other. The armed forces need to be reminded again and again that supporting any group doesn’t benefit them. It will mean keeping one group or another at the price of the combatants’ lives, and in in the process also at the sacrifice of Ethiopian people’s interests.
