Huawei Technologies Ethiopia, in partnership with Addis Ababa University (AAU), has launched Ethiopia’s first Education Benchmark Showcase at the Sidist Kilo Campus. The initiative introduces AI-powered education and smart campus solutions designed to support Ethiopia’s digital transformation and enhance access to advanced learning technologies.
The announcement was made earlier this week by Huawei Technologies Ethiopia and AAU during the official launch event held in the capital.
Their representatives expressed hope that the Education Benchmark Showcase will serve as a model for integrating AI-driven platforms, digital skills development, and innovation hubs into Ethiopia’s education system.
The showcase marks a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s digital transformation, demonstrating how AI-enabled education and smart campus solutions can shape the future of learning.
The event also featured discussions on how cloud computing, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and green technologies can enhance Ethiopia’s education sector.
Speaking at the event, Colin Hu, president of Enterprise of Huawei Northern Africa, emphasized the Chinese tech giant’s commitment to better and technology-based education.
“With technology, we can ensure that every student, teacher, and every institution has access to the tools they need to unlock their potential,” he said, emphasizing that Huawei is committed to connecting schools, building digital skills, and developing Ethiopia’s ICT talent for the future. “Together with AAU, we can make a difference.”
University leaders underscored the power of partnership in driving Ethiopia’s digital transformation, highlighting the project as a benchmark for education and innovation across Africa.
Samuel Kifle (PhD), president of Addis Ababa University, described the project as a “benchmark“ for educational excellence. He emphasized that AI-powered education has established a model site for Ethiopia’s educational system by providing hands-on demonstrations of how technology can enhance learning.
He added that the initiative establishes an advanced ICT Academy, a Joint Innovation Centre, and a national Digital Talent Hub, all aimed at equipping students with globally relevant digital skills.
In addition to its partnership with AAU, Huawei has collaborated with over 3,000 universities in more than 110 countries to establish its ICT Academies. These academies train over 300,000 students annually and showcase a focus on innovation-driven education.
