Ethiopia bolstered its position as a key voice in the global fashion dialogue as its leading designers and industry stakeholders made a significant impact at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow.
The BRICS+ Fashion Summit, held in the Russian capital from August 28 to 30, solidified its role as a key international event for the global fashion industry.
The summit attracted over 100 participants from more than 60 countries, creating a platform for in-depth discussions on crucial topics. These included cultural identity in fashion, technological innovation, sustainability practices, and investment opportunities within the sector.
Mahlet Teklemariam, founder of Hub of Africa Fashion Week, described Ethiopia’s engagement as both prominent and substantive.
“The panel featured distinguished African and Ethiopian fashion leaders,” she said, noting that the event was also attended by renowned Ethiopian delegates.
Mahlet stated that this active participation demonstrated the nation’s growing influence within the global fashion and creative sectors.
She added that the summit served as a strategic platform for exchanging knowledge, forming key alliances, and identifying opportunities for collaboration to boost the global profile of African fashion.
“The networks forged at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit are vital for fostering collaborations and enhancing the global competitiveness of our industries,” said Mahlet.
The delegation’s involvement highlighted how international engagement is crucial for accelerating the development of Africa’s fashion ecosystem, ensuring its rising visibility and impact on the global stage.
Reportedly, the BRICS+ Fashion Summit’s primary focus is to decentralize the industry and elevate emerging markets by fostering collaboration, promoting sustainable practices, and showcasing cultural narratives.
In addition, the summit provides a platform for in-depth discussions on critical issues like innovation, investment, and ethical production to drive a more inclusive and diverse future for fashion.
